While I really want to say: who cares about makeup. It’s week 11 of an eternal lockdown, and makeup is the least of our problems. I then remind myself: NO! No lockdown, you’ve taken away my desire to ever wear pants and shoes, but you will not take away my penchant for a smokey eye!!! I’m bigger than that. Literally.
Eyes don’t lie?
If you are a resident (prisoner) of NSW or Victoria, it’s Mask On Always. Mask to go to the shops, mask to walk the dog, and if you’re lucky, mask at work. (I’ve considered taking up smoking to reduce mask-wearing, but hello, expensive AND aging.) So, wearing a full face of foundation, blush, or lipstick is a complete waste of time. The result is just smudged makeup and carnage on the mask. It’s enough to push you right over!
However, let’s not forget, you still have eyes (possibly with a glint of sheer desperation and madness, but eyes nonetheless). Friends, this is the time, as we cling onto anything that resembles pre lockdown life, that we CAN hold it together with eyeliner.
Live A Little
Have you ever bought a brilliant tangerine hued statement eye-shadow that sits idly in your makeup drawer with all the other cast-offs? Have you ever wanted to take your foot off the brake and wear turquoise eyeliner? Well, guess what? NOW is the time for peak eye-shadow experimentation! Don’t dilly-dally—once this lockdown is over, you’ll be back to your bland colour palette in no time. Get those reject colours out of hibernation and onto those peep-holes!
Paint the town red
The fact you’re out of your PJs and walking the dog or not browsing while filling up the trolley at Dan Murphys—is a triumph!
Celebrate these moments with a splash of cobalt blue or purple on the lids. Or why not tell your LGA how you really feel about homeschooling with the total Emo Eye— extreme lashings of DARK eyeliner? And if you are working masked and crumbling inside, LIQUID GLITTER EYE SHADOW could be the only way forward. It doesn’t matter the colour or theme—just dress those peep-holes like it’s any year other than 2020/2021. Give them life. Give them hope (I think I’m still talking about eyes?) and enjoy Eye Shadow Experimentation Time (11 weeks of lockdown and still counting).
Feeling self-conscious to don a full evening eye at 10 am? Remember, most people have lost their will to live their best lives and won’t be phased by such antics. Be the inspiration they need to face another day indoors. And you’ll also find, this macro-grooming effort really sets the stage for an ENTIRE day of achievement. Next, you’ll be out of the peanut butter jar and using that weird Pilates bar ordered online last lockdown. The possibilities are truly ENDLESS.
